During the 2nd World War in 1944, Major Claude Hensinger jumped out of a B-29 aircraft, when the engine caught fire. He survived because of his parachute. Later, he asked his fiancée Ruth to fashion a gown out of the same parachute. The dress today is showcased at the Smithsonian Institute.
